Obituary

LOEWEN: Jake Loewen, of Brandon, formerly of Justice, passed away in Regina, Saskatchewan on Monday, October 8, 2012. Born June 8, 1928 in Fannystelle, Manitoba, Jake grew up in the Moore Park/Justice Area. In his early years he attended the Moore Park/Justice schools. Jake graduated grade 12 in Gretna, and then attended teachers college in Winnipeg. He took evening courses at Brandon University to get his teachers certificate and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974. Jake began his teaching career in 1950 at Friedensrue, MB, then moved to Wingham, MB from 1951-1954. After that he went to Brooke School, Rivers Camp Manitoba from 1954-1971 and worked in Brookdale, MB (Principal) from 1971-1983. Jake spent many summers crop inspecting and insurance adjusting. He farmed near Justice until 2006. He was a member of the Justice Mennonite Brethren Church and enjoyed singing/music, reading, crosswords, family games and travelling North America. Jake will be lovingly remembered by: his wife Margaret (Schmidt) Loewen; Robert (Lori) Loewen of Estevan, Lisa, Aiden, Thomas; Don (Leona) Loewen of Onanole; Julia (Rob) and Brennan Dueckman, Deanna, Angie (Gary) Doherty, Kaitlyn, Ryan; Tracy Delmage; Karen (Don) Crane of Regina, Jonathon, Jillian, Morgan; Sandra of Saskatoon. He also leaves his sisters; Erica (Jake) Harder, Martha (Ross) McMillan, Jessie (Dave) Penner and a sister-in-law, Agnes Loewen and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Agathe Loewen; brother Walter; sister Ruth and numerous in-laws. A graveside service was held at the Sparling Cemetery on Saturday, October 13, 2012 with the Funeral Service held at Richmond Park Mennonite Brethren Church, 1525-26th Street. Pastor Gerry Harms officiated. Pallbearers were Rob Loewen, Don Loewen, Sandra Loewen, Thomas Loewen, Lisa Loewen and Don Crane. Donations in memory of Mr. Loewen may be made to the Mennonite Brethren Missions and Services International, 83 Henderson Highway, Winnipeg, MB R2L 1L2 or to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Unit 1, 452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3Y 1G4. The family wishes to sincerely thank Dr. Riche and staff at Brandon Renal Unit for their compassionate care during the years of kidney dialysis.
