Obituary
In sadness, but with grateful hearts for a life well lived, the family announces the peaceful passing of Jack on January 20, 2025, at the Assiniboine Centre, after a courageous struggle with late onset MS.
Besides his wife Cydnie, he is survived by his daughter Sandra (Hiroaki) Suzuyama, grandson Noah and his son Ian.
Predeceased by siblings Alice, Sylvia, Ferg and their spouses, he is also survived by his brother Frank (Elaine), his father-in-law Gilbert Baker, 6 brother and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Throughout his life, to his last day, Jack gave generously of his time and talents. For over 40 years, he was a regular blood donor. On retirement in 2007, after a 30-year career at MTS, Jack became a volunteer driver with the Canadian Cancer Society in the patient transportation program and droved hundreds of patients safely to Winnipeg and back over the years. He was also a steadfast supporter of Freemasonry, with membership in Brandon Lodge #19, and the Scottish Rite.
Jack became interested in Ford Model Ts as a child, and he was finally able to purchase his first one in the late 1990s. Over the next 20 plus years he took much enjoyment in the restoration of several models, some just needing routine maintenance, but some needing to be rebuilt from a pile of parts. He spent many happy hours in his shop working on a total of 7 Model Ts. And he took great pleasure in driving them as well, on errands around town, and taking his grandson for rides when he was visiting. When he was no longer able to be in his shop, the difficult decision was made to sell them all, and his hope was that the new owners would get as much enjoyment from them as he had over the years.
The family wishes to thank the Brandon Firefighter Paramedics for their help and caring when they came to lift Jack after his many falls, the staff on A2 and A3 at the Assiniboine Centre, Dr. A. Fung, and especially Rev. Joe Ball for his understanding, guidance, and compassion during this difficult time.
