Obituary

Ivy Helena Reed passed away peacefully at her residence, Fairview Home, on Wednesday, September 4, 2002. Ivy was born on January 18, 1913 in Tavistock, England, to Charles and Stella Kathleen Reed. As a small baby she traveled with her mother on the voyage to Canada to join her father who had emigrated earlier. They settled in Brandon where Ivy attended Brandon schools and the Wheat City Business College. Ivy became a proficient typist and at the beginning of her career typed many letters and documents at her home for Brandon businesses. During the war years, Ivy worked at the Manning Depot and then in 1940 began her life-long career at the Brandon Research Station, known at that time as the Experimental Farm. Ivy enjoyed her many years there and still corresponded with many of her co-workers and their families. She retired from her position as Secretary to the Director in 1977 after 37 years of service. Ivy made several trips to England to visit her cousins and enjoyed touring her beloved England. Ivy also enjoyed touring Canada and the United States in her car. She loved to drive and many friends enjoyed traveling with her on trips and to church. Ivy was a faithful member of Central United Church. She will be remembered for her keen sense of humor, she always had a ready answer. Ivy lived for many years at Hobbs Manor and made many dear friends there. She was predeceased by her father, Charles in 1933 and her mother, Kathleen, in 1981. Ivy will be sadly missed by her many friends and her cousins in England who were like brothers and sisters to her. The funeral service was held on Friday, September 6, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Central United Church, 327 - 8th Street. The Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood officiated. The pallbearers were: Lloyd Nerbas, Ivan Forsyth, Don Clendenning, Greg Moffat, and Ron Moffat. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Ivy to a charity of their choice. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330. Memorials
