Obituary

On Thursday, March 24, 2016, Irene Miriam Hine (Jones) passed away following a two week stay at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. She will be deeply missed by her two daughters: Arlene (Parker) Berney and Sherry (Murray) Kitchen; grandsons Trevor (Anna) Monk, Brent (Lisa) Monk; four great-grandchildren; son-in-law Bryan Monk and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond (1980); daughter Donna Monk (2005); two brothers and two sisters. Mom was born in England on December 13, 1922, and came to Canada with her parents and three siblings in 1928. They settled in the Brookdale area, but times were difficult so she left home as a teenager to look for work. She met Dad while working in Brandon and they married in 1942. They started their married life farming in the Hayfield District but moved back to Brandon in 1952. She was so happy that she was able to remain in that same home for the next 64 years. Mom was never one to be idle - in her younger years she loved to cook, had a large vegetable/flower garden and canned everything. When she finally had to slow down, she loved to read, knit and followed a few programs on T.V. She will be remembered for her very quiet, kind, caring personality and love for her family. A private burial took place at the Brandon Cemetery. Should people wish a donation to Samaritan House would be appreciated.
