Obituary

NIELSEN: Ila (nee: Shuttleworth) Nielsen, passed away suddenly at Riverdale Hospital on October 5, 2000 with her family present. Ila was born on October 3, 1919 at Minnedosa, the eldest of six children born to Garnet and Charlotte Shuttleworth. Ila attended Hunterville School and on December 3, 1944 married Stan Nielsen. This union created a family circle of five children: Elizabeth, Garry, Darlene, Lois, Patti. The family circle was blessed with the birth of fifteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A special friend of Mom's and a curling buddy of Dad's, Jim Ashton, carried Mom to her final resting place at the Rivers Cemetery following the ceremony at the Rivers United Church on Tuesday, October 10, 2000. Ila was actively involved in the legion auxillary for over 25 years, a leader of 4 - H and C.G.I.T. Mom was an avid curler and when unable to participate herself, became Stan's constant follower and cheering section. Her love of gardening, canning and baking kept the family supplied with everything they loved. Mom could always be seen supporting her children and grandchildren at any sporting activity they were involved in. Mom's favorite pastimes were bingo, cards and trying to keep her family warm with knitted socks and mitts. Mom will always be remembered for her faith in God, her enjoyment of music, and her love and devotion to family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Mom was predeceased by her father, Garnet, her mother, Charlotte, her sisters, Rita, Eva and Norma, her brother, Earl, her son-in-law, John and two great-grandchildren, Shadray and Jessica. Ila is survived by husband, Stan, son, Garry (Betty), daughters, Elizabeth (George) Hanke, Darlene (Terry) Berreth, Lois Turner, Patti (Jim) Kent, brother, Edward (Ruth) Shuttleworth, sisters-in-law Freida Henry, Joyce (Floyd) Campbell, Mary Nielsen, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews and life-long friend Emily Gardnier of BC. We will continue to celebrate the legacy that Mom left to all of us. If friends wish, donations may be made to Riverdale Hospital Memorial Fund, Box 428, Rivers, MB, R0K 1X0. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330. Memorials
