MAY: After a courageous and dignified battle with cancer, Hugh M. May, husband of the late Donna May (nee Stacey) passed away peacefully on Monday, August 24, 2009 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, at the age of 72. Hugh was born January 20, 1937 in Killarney, Manitoba and raised in the Killarney area, one of ten children of Phyllis and Norman May. Hugh had countless fond memories of life growing up on the farm and deeply cherished his family and friends. Hugh married his high school sweetheart, Donna in 1959. He lovingly shared his life with her and together they raised a family of five children. From an early career start with the Royal Bank, to many years of service for the town of Virden and the Rural Municipality of Wallace, Hugh finished his working career with the Brandon and Area Planning District in 1995. Hugh had an unmistakable enthusiasm for life. In his teen and early adult life, he loved playing hockey. Curling, golf, and camping were lifelong pastimes he enjoyed with special friends and family, while later in life he and Donna enjoyed recreational bowling during their years in Brandon. Hugh was a devoted husband, father, and especially proud grandfather. Hugh is pre-deceased by his wife Donna (nee Stacey); parents Norman and Phyllis; mother-in-law and father-in-law Evelyn and Eddie Stacey; sister Mary-Ellen Hicks and brother Elmer May. He is survived by daughter Lisa (Bob); sons: Stacy, Tony, Doug (Rosa); daughter Erin and grandchildren: Branden, Caitlin, Devin, Derek, Emma, Tove, Liam and Marybeth and other family Bridie (Norm) Howarth, Elaine May, Norma (Dave) Richards, Winnie (Hank) Mitchell, Alma May, Curly Hicks, John May, Tom May, Rita May and Doris (Wayne) Hall.
