Obituary

BROWN: Herbert Floyd, beloved father of George, Cindy and Mike, of Brandon, passed away suddenly in the city on Thursday, October 14, 1999. Dad was born in Winnipeg on July 3, 1925. His early life was spent on the farm with his family during which time he also attended several country schools. On September 9th, 1942 Dad joined the army and left for overseas. He served his country well and on April 26, 1946 he was honourably discharged from the forces and returned home from Europe to be with his family. This time spent with his family was short as once again on August 11, 1950 he rejoined the troops to actively take part in the Korean Conflict. On August 7th, 1961 Dad once again was honourably released from the Canadian Armed Forces. Although Dad talked little about the war, we knew he was with the PPCLI, North Nova Scotia Highlanders, Queens Own Rifles and Winnipeg Rifles. His Theatres of Service included Canada, United Kingdom and Continental Europe when he first signed up followed by Canada, Far East and Continental Europe during his last military years. He was very proud to have been associated with all his infantry friends and to have been a part of the Canadian presence on the beaches of Normandy. Upon release from the army, Dad went to work for the D.N.D. and proudly worked for them for 28 years. He retired on August 16, 1991 leaving him more time to spend with his family, which is where he was at the time of his passing. He loved boxing, fishing, hockey and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his son, George (Elisha and Bradley); his daughter, Cindy; and his son, Michael (Trudy) and their children Tina, Kyle and Kimmy. He is also survived by sisters: Myrt (Ron) Reid, Hazel (Al) Holden, Phil Crawford, Faith (Dood) Cristall, Alice (Bill) Laronde; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his father George in 1952 and his mother Alice in 1988. A private family service was held with interment in the Veteran's Section of the Brandon Cemetery. Rev. Bob Wiebe officiated. Donations in memory of Dad may be made to a charity of one's choice. The family will be forever grateful to Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre for providing excellence in funeral service care.
