Obituary

HYDE: Henry William "Hank" Hyde passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 27, 2005 with family at his side. Dad was born on August 21, 1917 on the family farm north of Elphinstone, the son of Francis and Agnes Hyde. This is where his love for farming began. Hank attended Morris School until farming became a full time passion. Dad worked alongside his father and siblings on the family farm until he and his brother, Jack, took over the farm. Dad joined the Canadian Armed Forces and was stationed in Portage La Prairie, where he completed his basic training. He married Barbara Ann Spraggs "Mom" in 1957. They eventually moved the family off the farm and began working for Henry Fifi's farm near Cypress River. In 1966, Dad and Mom bought a home on 38th Street in Brandon, Manitoba. In Brandon Dad had a variety of employers including: Wilton Motors, Trade Fair Exchange, International Nursing Home and Hillcrest Home. In 1983, He lost his lower left leg to disease but this didn't stop him, He returned to farming, helping harvest crops on the Chapman farm near Brandon. Dad's love for woodworking showed in the many birdhouses, small scale farms and windmills he built. In his later years he spent hours travelling around Brandon on his shiny red medichair cart. Dad's strong work ethic showed in his yard on 6th Street. Autumn leaves barely had time to touch the ground before he had them cleaned up. Dad cleaned snow, rototilled gardens and repaired fences for his neighbours right into his 87th year. Although Dad loved visiting his family, he mourned deeply for his wife, Barbara, since her passing in 2001. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Maureen Hennon, Sherri (Bruce) Webber, Jorj (Sue) Hyde, Marney Hyde (Gary Sampson) and Shelley (Daryl) Neustater; eight grandchildren, Shayne (Sean) Preuter, Caleb, Nolan and Marshall Hyde, Lloyd and Ken Shurvell, Jake and Kelly Neustater; two great grandchildren, Alex and Amy Grace Preuter.
