Obituary

DITTMER: It is with much sadness that we, the family of Henry Dittmer announce his passing, peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre in his 86th year with his wife Beverly at his side. Henry was born on the family farm in the Sinclair/Clover Hill District on a cold winter night on December 17, 1922 to Augusta and Walter Dittmer. His twin brother did not survived the cold night and died of pneumonia soon after. Henry grew up on the family farm and attended school at Clover Hill. His brothers, sisters and childhood friends were a big part of his life and he always kept in close touch with them throughout his lifetime. In 1949, he married Beverly Opper and together they farmed on the family farm. To this union were born three children: Linda (1950), Murray (1953) and Randy (1956). He enjoyed raising his children in the communities of Clover Hill/Antler and Sinclair. Community and family activities were always special times for him. In 1974, the farm was sold and Henry and Beverly moved to their new home at 642 34th Street in Brandon to be closer to family. He loved his Wheat City and always welcomed family, friends, and neighbours to his home. He was always ready for a card game and cup of coffee with his visitors. Henry enjoyed summers at Minnedosa Beach and attended his potato patch in his Brandon garden with great pride and joy. He was an avid Maple Leaf fan and always supported the Brandon Wheat Kings. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and followed their accomplishments. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Beverly of fifty-nine years; children: Linda (Brian) Winch, Murray (Patricia), and Randy (Lorrie); six grandchildren: Troy (Susan) Winch, Aaron Winch, Tanya (Andrew) Gugin, Cory (Stacy) Dittmer, Jodi and Tyler Dittmer. Henry was blessed with ten great-grandchildren Makena, Koele, Jasper, Cabri, Taylor, Grady, Luke, Rebekah, Carter and Kaylee. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Henry was predeceased by his infant daughter Laurie in 1969, his mother Augusta, and father Walter and brothers: August, Dan and sisters Bertha and Minta. The Funeral Service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 2:00 pm. Rev. John Nesbitt of Trinity United Church, assisted by Andrew Gugin, will officiate. A private family interment will be held in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 8 - 940 Princess Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 0P6. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the third floor of the Assiniboine Centre for their care. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.
