Obituary

WELLER: On June 17, 2007, our dear mom, grandma, great-grandma and friend, Helen Weller, passed away peacefully with her family by her side in the Palliative Care Unit at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, following a long courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 88 years. The youngest child of Robert and Gertrude (nee Agar) Cassan, Helen was born on March 28, 1919 in Brandon, where she resided for her entire life. On August 4, 1941, she married her one true love, Arthur Weller and enjoyed 43 years of marriage. She is survived by her son Bob (Judy) Weller; granddaughter Lindy Weller (Brian Funk) and great-grandson Cayden Weller all of Winnipeg; grandsons Jamie Weller of Thompson and Sean Weller of Calgary; her daughter Susan (Murray) Mann of Brandon; granddaughter Heather (nee Mann) (Cory) Keeble and great grandsons Braden and Jackson Keeble of Brandon; son Geoff Mann (Lindsay Haight) of Brandon; sisters-in-law Norah Weller of Swan River and Lois Cassan of Brandon. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur on September 16, 1984; her mother and father; brothers Roy and Ray Cassan; brother-in-law Leonard Weller and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Helen's greatest role in life was as a homemaker - as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was very proud of all her family members and openly bragged to all who visited her home about their accomplishments. Any new picture was displayed either in picture frames or under the glass table top in her living room. She had a special love for dogs - each had to have a middle name like Skipper Charles, Rufus Cooper or Jenny Louise. She developed life long friendships throughout her life with people of all ages. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for fifty-nine years. Up to the age of 86 she was chairman of the service committee and always adjourned the meetings. Until she was 84, Helen delivered Meals on Wheels to many seniors who were younger than she was. Helen was young at heart and never really considered herself as a senior. She was a member of the Crocus Lionelles and Lions Club and the Associated Canadian Travellers Womens Auxilliary. She was also a member of St. Matthew's Anglican Church for close to sixty years. She enjoyed camping when her children were young. Helen also loved time spent at her cabin in the old campground at Clear Lake with family and friends. She enjoyed the trips to Hawaii and Texas with her husband; to Barbados and Spain with her friend of sixty years, Jic Cormack; and to the Bahamas with her friend Mona Whiting. The Ceremony to Celebrate Helen's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Thursday, June 21, 2007. The Very Rev. Robin Walker officiated. A private interment took place in the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Funds for Furry Friends, c/o Suite 208 - 740 Rosser Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 0K9 or to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, Palliative Care Unit, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 2B3 or to a charity of choice. We wish to thank all her friends who visited her during her illness. Words can't express our thanks and gratitude to Dr. Fourie and the nurses and nurse's aides for the tender loving care shown to mom while she was a patient in the Palliative Care Unit.

"You were always there when we needed you,
No task too great or small.
With a loving heart and willing hand,
For us you did them all.
Thanks for the years you gave us,
For the times that we shared,
We only pray when you left us,
That you knew how much we cared.
God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be,
So He put his arms around you
And said "Come to me."
You didn't deserve what you went through,
So God gave you a rest,
His garden must be beautiful,
For He only picks the best.
