OSTIUK: Helen Ostiuk (nee Weber) was born on September 3, 1931 to Fred and Anna Weber in Waldersee, Manitoba. Helen passed away on October 25, 2007 in the city of Brandon. Helen attended Harriott School in Waldersee. Later in life John Ostiuk took Helen's hand in marriage on June 11, 1949. From this blessed and happy union they raised five wonderful and successful children. Their children were named: Janet, Marlene, Charles, Audrey and Sherry. John and Helen farmed in the district of Waldersee until 1975 before moving to Carberry where they both gained employment at Carnation Foods Ltd. Helen was known to many as an accomplished cook and baker. When you would stop in for coffee she would always have something delicious to sink your teeth into or she would insist you stay for supper because she could whip something up. Those precious times will be missed terribly. Canning fruits and vegetables was one of her favorite activities in the fall. Helen loved to crochet, knit and in the last few years of her life came to love word search puzzles. Helen's most favorite pastime was spending time with her family and loved ones, which always brought joy to her, especially when funny stories and memories were exchanged between family members. Helen would never hesitate to demonstrate her wit and humor at the appropriate time and place. Going dancing Saturday night with John was another favorite weekend activity. In 1998, God planned for Helen to move to Brandon to enjoy her retirement years, which she did while spending time in her beautiful new home. She remained at her residence until September of 2006. For the last two years of Helen's life, she was very grateful, for she was able to see her last daughter get married and in May of this year she was blessed with another grandchild who she called Grandma's little sweetheart. She got great joy in being able to be part of these two blessed events. Towards the end of her life, Helen was grateful for all the loving care she received from her immediate family. Helen leaves her family who will miss her very much but are happy to know that she is in heaven with her Lord, whom she loved so much. She will finally be reunited with the love of her life, John, whom she was married to for 42 years. The family takes great solace in knowing one day they will all be reunited. Helen was sadly predeceased by her husband John; parents Fred and Anna Weber and infant grandson Kyle Smith. Her immediate family includes: Janet (Ken) Smith, Marlene (Arnold) Gal, Charles Ostiuk, Audrey Ostiuk-Conyette (Dr. Paul Conyette), and Sherry (Eric) Haithwaite. Grandchildren left to mourn are: Dean Gal, Tammy Gal-Buchanan (James Buchanan), Amber (David) Dixon, and Janine Haithwaite. Great-grandchildren include: Taylor, Tyson, and Terrill Gal. Her siblings left to mourn include: Ernest (Judy) Weber, Karl Weber, and Violet (Jim) Berg. The Funeral Service was held at Memories Chapel on Saturday, October 27, 2007. Pastor Ted Jannuska of Redeemer Lutheran Church officiated. Interment followed at the Carberry Plains Cemetery, Carberry, Manitoba. A Mother's Love
A Mother's Love is something
That no one can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
And of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish
And enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it
Or take that love away...
It is patient and forgiving
When all others are forsaking,
And it never fails or falters
Even though the heart is breaking...
It believes beyond believing
When the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty
Of the rarest, brightest gems...
It is far beyond defining,
It defies all explanation,
And it still remains a secret
Life the mysteries of creation..
A many splendored miracle
Man cannot understand
And another wondrous evidence
Of God's tender guiding hand.
