KAY: It is with great sadness, we wish to announce the peaceful passing of our dear "Baba", Helen Kay on Monday, May 9, 2005. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, on Thursday evening, May 12, 2005 from 7:30 pm. to 8:30 pm. The Funeral Ceremony will be held at Memories Chapel, on Friday, May 13, 2005 at 10:30 am. Captain Garry Keeping of the Salvation Army will officiate. Interment will follow in the Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. KAY: It is with great sadness that we, the loving family of Helen Kay, announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother "Baba" on Monday, May 9, 2005 at the age of 83 years. She is now reunited with our dear father, Joe, "Gigi". Helen was born on June 23, 1921 in Brandon, the daughter of Mike and Pearl Shadlock, and was raised in the North End of the city. Baba attended school at David Livingston School. She married Joe Kay on October 21, 1940 and together they raised five children: Joan, Joe, Gale, Ron and Ken. Baba was a great mother keeping a great home for us. Later Baba worked as a waitress at he Royalite Coffee Shop and then took another position on the custodial staff at the Brandon University until her retirement. She was predeceased by her parents: Mike and Pearl Shadlock; husband, Joe Kay; brother, Mike Shadlock; and sisters, Anne Thorley, Stella Atamanczuk and Olga Gurba. Baba will be lovingly remembered by her children, Joan (Ron) Thorley of Creighton, SK, Joe (Marie) Kay, Gale (Dennis) Haverstock all of Brandon, Ron (Wendy) Kay of Waterford, ON and Ken "Kenzie" (Barb) Kay of Brandon; grandchildren, Michelle (Brian) Holder of Brandon, Michael (Linda) Thorley of Yorkton, SK, Jennifer-Jo Thorley of Saskatoon, SK, Evie (Ben) Pegelo of Dauphin, MB, Jenny Kay and Jo-Anna Kay of Brandon, MB, Angie (James) Chambers and Sheri Haverstock all of Calgary, AB, Brent Kay of Waterford, ON and Jeff Clark of Brandon, MB. She will also be greatly missed by her great grandchildren, Tyson and Justin Holder, Morgan and Carson Thorley, Alexia Pegelo, Jaidyn Kay, and Brandon and Andy Chambers. Helen is also survived by her sisters, Jean Potosky, Mary Buckowski and Polly Berry; brothers, Nick and Joe Shadlock and many nieces and nephews. The Celebration of Baba's Life was held at Memories Chapel, on Friday, May 13, 2005. Captains Garry and Dora Keeping of the Salvation Army officiated. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Pallbearers were: grandsons, Michael Thorley and Brent Kay, Jeff Clark, Ben Pegelo, James Chambers and Brian Holder. Honorary pallbearers were all Baba's family and friends. The Kay family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Vern Schneider at Memories Chapel for all his assistance and professionalism shown to our family. Also a special thank you to Captain's Garry and Dora Keeping for their assistance and words of wisdom. A huge void will remain in all our lives as Baba touched each and everyone of us, especially her little critters. Flowers are gratefully declined.
