It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Harold Scott on July 7th, 2001. Dad was born in Brandon on February 12th, 1928 the youngest son of Merton and Dora Scott. He took his schooling in Brandon and then in 1945 began his career with the Canadian Pacific Railway. Dad started as a call-boy and upon his retirement in 1986 he had worked his way up to a yardmaster. He would often tell stories of his railroading days and always claimed that it had been the best job in the world. Dad always had a second passion in his life besides the railroad and that was doing carpentry/handy work. He was always building or fixing something. No matter what the task Dad's vast knowledge was always put to the test. As a youngster his summers were spent at the family cottage in Sandy Lake. This tradition continued when Dad built his own cottage at Sandy Lake. In his younger years Dad was quite a water-skier and he spent many week-ends helping others learn to ski. Family and friends were always welcome at the cottage and the time spent at the lake was always special. So it was no surprise that when Dad did retire that it was to his cottage. Upon retiring he was never at a loss for things to do. He kept busy walking on a daily basis, baking his favourite sweets, bird watching and reading. He also became involved with the community by becoming a member of Citizens On Patrol. He loved to have company either for Happy Hour, a game of cards or simply to visit. Dad never hesitated to come to the aid of a friend or family member and over the years had become quite a good listener. The love of his life were his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He felt very proviledged to be able to say he had great grandchildren. Dad was a great influence in all of our lives but he always had a special way with his grandchildren and then with the great grand kids. He was never too busy. Whatever they wanted - and if he could do it - it would be done. You could say he spoiled the kids but then again he would have done anything for his family. Dad was an avid supporter of any activity his family was involved in, be it a sporting event or a small family business he was always there to offer his encouragement. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Eunice, daughter Donna (Don) Greig of Calgary; granddaughters Carla (finac?? Angelo) and Crystal (friend Shane), and great grandson Malkalm all of Calgary; daughter Eileen (Blair) Cairns of Brandon, grandson Travis (friend Davilyn), granddaughter Trina (friend Tristan), and great grandchildren Braden, Taylor and Bryce all of Brandon. Sisters-in-law Dora Scott of Brandon and Marion Scott of Winnipeg also survive hims as well as other numerous relatives. He was predeceased by his father, mother, two brothers, Russell and Ralph and his sister Madeline. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at Memories Chapel with Mona Franklin officiating. Interment was at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire donations may be made in Harold's memory to Westman Dreams for Kids Foundation Inc., 1435 Princess Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 0R6. Dad - You lived what you believed. Family always comes first. Thank-you for the time you spent with each of us. We will treasure the memories.
