KIRKBY: The death of Harold Alfred Kirkby occurred at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Sunday, June 5, 2005. Harold was born on November 7, 1926 in Brandon, the son of Alfred and Ethel Kirkby. He received his education in the city and was raised in the family business, owned by his father, "Wheat City Bakery". When Harold completed his schooling, he ventured out to try other things: building, working at Canadian Motors and then at Manco Creamery, the railroad, and finally Allied Van Lines (later United Van Lines). After a work place accident in the 1980's, Harold left United Van Lines. Harold loved gardening, music, dancing, playing the guitar and the harmonica, camping, singing and had the family gift for baking. He also greatly enjoyed working on vehicles and building. Harold was a very personable, sociable man who loved to connect with people. His sense of humour will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Harold was a charmer and a giver to his friends and neighbours, but was also very loyal to his family and buddy, Ken. Ferne remembers the many happy times and memories through the years. She and the family are grateful for the life Harold has shared with them. He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Ethel Sarah Kirkby; sister, Maybelle "May" (John) Rendall; and brothers, William Cowan (Ellen) Kirkby and Jack Samuel Kirkby. Harold will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ferne; children, Bruce Kirkby, Maxine (Garry) Meadows, Don Kirkby and Kenneth Kirkby; grandchildren, Marcie (Mike), Angela (Mark) and Ryan; and great grandchildren, Natalie, Faith and Olivia. A Private Family Ceremony was held at Memories Chapel. Rev. John Nesbitt of Trinity United Church officiated. Private interment was held in the Brandon Cemetery.
