Obituary

NELSON; Hannah Jane "Jennie" Nelson passed away peacefully at her residence, Fairview Home, with the Greig family by her side, on Thursday, April 7, 2005, in her 101st year. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Greig of Brandon; granddaughter, Debbie (Gary) Kalagian; great granddaughters, Ashley and Meghan of Winnipeg; granddaughter, Kim (Ray) Eikanger; and great grandsons Ian and Evan of Brandon; grandson, Curt (Angela) Greig; great grandsons, Brandon and Liam of Shilo. She is also survived by her son, Lawrence and family; daughter, Marjorie and family all of South-Western Ontario. The Greig family would like to thank Dr. Egan for all of the wonderful care that she has given Jennie for the last 16 years. Thank you also to the caring nursing staff at Fairview Home, who made Grandma's last days comfortable, and for all of the support which they gave our family. Thank you to Rev. John Nesbitt for his visits and prayers. Cremation has taken place. Interment will follow at a later date in Jennie's home town of Port Elgin, Ontario. Nelson: Hannah Jane "Jennie" Nelson (nee Leggett) peacefully passed away at her residence, Fairview Home, Brandon, MB, with the Greig family by her side, on Thursday, April 7, 2005 in her 101st year. On July 15, 1904, Jennie was born in Bruce Township in Ontario. In 1928 she married Charles 'Watson' Nelson and soon after resided in Port Elgin, ON. Jennie enjoyed her home & family, especially her grandchildren & great grandchildren. She could usually be found cooking, working in her massive garden, or admiring her roses. Grandma had a great love for horses, and still enjoyed talking about 'hitching up Old Nell' to go to town. When she was 84, Grandma developed a tumor on her brain & and as her dying wish, came to Brandon to be near her daughter Phyllis. Miraculously, her tumor was removed & she made a full recovery. She took an apartment in Brandon & enjoyed living there for 10 years. Jennie loved going out for dinner and traveling with Phyllis and Phyllis' late husband Chuck. She entered Fairview Nursing Home at the age of 95, and remained in good health until her 100th birthday. She was predeceased by her parents Hannah & George Leggett; husband Watson; infant son Wayne; granddaughter Janice; siblings Marjorie, Stewart, Russell, & Eileen; niece Donna Kaake; nephew Ralph Leggett; brother-in-laws Jim Currie and Bill Kaake; and son-in-law Charles Greig. Jennie is survived by her daughter Marjorie Bailey of London & children; Carol (Bob) Stevens of Ottawa; Nelson (Diane) of Port Elgin; and Karen of London, ON.; son Lawrence & children of Hamilton - Toronto area, Bruce (Nancy),Courtney & Kendra; Steve(Kathy) Brandon & Michael, Susanne, Judy,& Jennifer (Claude Lambert) Samantha & Kyle; daughter Phyllis & children; Debbie (Gary) Kalagian, Ashley & Meghan of Winnipeg, Kim (Ray) Eikanger, Ian & Evan of Brandon, Curt (Angela) Greig, Brandon & Liam of Shilo. The family would like to thank Dr. Egan for all of the wonderful care that she has given Jennie for the last 16 years. Thank you also to the caring nursing staff at Fairview Home, who made Grandma's last days comfortable, and for all of the support which they gave the Greig family. Thank you to Rev. John Nesbitt for his visits and prayers. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will follow in Jennie's hometown of Port Elgin, Ontario, date to be announced.
