Gwyneth Laura McPhail passed away at Fairview Home on January 9, 2001 at the age of 78 years. Gwen was born in Stockport, Cheshire, England on November 22, 1922. At the age of 6 months, she came to Canada with her family to reside in Russell, Manitoba where she received her education. Gwen married Earl McPhail on November 8, 1950 and together they raised three children, Ray, Barry and Erliss. Gwen was employed as a telephone operator at Russell, Carberry and the Brandon University. Gwen enjoyed curling, golfing, and a glass of wine with friends. She and Earl also enjoyed many years with family and friends at the cottage at Minnedosa Beach and their winter home in Weslaco, Texas. Gwen was a member of the ladies curling club at Russell and Carberry and was a founding member of the Riverview Curling Club in Brandon. Surviving are: her husband, Earl, sons; Ray (Sandra) and Barry (Holly), daughter; Erliss (Bruce) Stobbe, grandsons; Trent, Cody, Joel and Josh McPhail and Jay Stobbe. She was predeceased by her parents; William and Mabel Bell, and sister; Winnie. The Ceremony to Celebrate Gwen's Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North on Monday, January 15, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. Honorary Pallbearers are: Elaine Ready, Norma Jean Coates, Bernice Atkinson, Jean Glasman, Dean Kissock (the Schneider family), and Frances Hubbard .
