TRELLA: Gwendoline Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Trella (nee Kaey)(Rance) passed away at her residence, Rideau Park, on Sunday, February 15, 2004. Betty was born in Connahs Quay, North Wales on April 26, 1923, and was the second youngest of seven sisters. She was active in the theatre and dance with her sisters. Betty married her first husband, Bill Rance, in 1939 and they moved to Preston, Lancashire in Northern England. During WW II, Betty worked on a production line in Flint, North Wales. By the mid 1950's she was working in retail sales at a ladies store. In the late 1950's Betty took on the role of an office supervisor for a large corporation. Her husband Bill passed away in 1978 and Betty decided to move to Canada in 1982 to be with her friend Vena. Soon after, her second husband to be, Michael came to visit and applied to stay. They married on January 31, 1983 and later they became Canadian citizens of which they were very proud. They resided in Brandon and later Betty and Michael moved to Douglas to live on an acreage where they stayed until February 2002, when they moved to Rideau Park. As a young woman, Betty was a beautiful spirited person. She took some hard knocks in her lifetime and like many people of her generation, experienced great emotional and material hardships-both in war and peace. Betty is survived by her husband Michael; son Alec (Janet) Rance of Preston, England; sisters Eileen Jones and Doris Jones and niece Kay (Eddie) Oakes. She was predeceased by her first husband Bill Rance; and sisters Florence, Phylis, Nancy and Carrie. The Funeral Ceremony was held at Rideau Park Personal Care Home on Monday, February 23, 2004. Sherry Sawatzky-Dyck officiated. Interment will follow at a later date in Alberta. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Betty to the ALS Society of Manitoba-Brandon Chapter, Box 21008, Brandon, Manitoba R7B 3W8.
Here is my final epitaph to a remarkable woman-my Mother, Betty:
"Wherever her spirit has gone, may it fly free, unburdened by life on earth."
