PIPER: The death of Gordon John Piper, formerly of Alexander, occurred at his residence, Valleyview Care Centre, Brandon on Thursday, March 13, 2008. The Funeral Ceremony will be held at the Alexander United Church on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 2:00 pm. The Rev. John Nesbitt will officiate. Interment will follow in the Alexander Cemetery. PIPER: Gordon John died peacefully at Valleyview Care Centre in Brandon, Manitoba on March 13, 2008 at the age of 90 years. Born at Carman, Manitoba on November 30th, 1917. He began working on farms in the Alexander area at a very early age (17 ). Became part of the MacKay (Iola & Herb) family and continued working there until joining the Armed Forces and serving overseas until the war was over. Upon discharge he again took up farming with local families, even caretaking at the rink in Alexander in winter. He was always a gentleman and a dedicated worker. Gordon was a faithful member of the United Church and also the legion. Attended services regularily while able. After having spent a few years in the Alexander area where his employers all claimed that he was most trustworthy - the Sibbalds needed him and there he spent the rest of his working years - part of that family as well. The MacKays continued to include him each Christmas and other special family occasions. On his 90th Birthday, many friends and neighbors gathered at the Royal Oak Inn to help celebrate the occasion. Gordon is survived by one sister Mary McAllister, her son Ken (Barbara), their daughter Brenda & family, two daughters Linda (Ron) Easy & family and Sharon (Dan) Easy. Predeceased by Mary? husband (Norman). A celebration of Gordon? life was held at Alexander United Church on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 with Rev. John Nesbitt presiding and Memories Chapel in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Brad MacKay, Frank Skinner, Rodger Mawer, Dennis Goring, Jim Madder and Ralph Sprenger. Interment at Alexander Cemetery.
