Obituary

SOLON: It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Gladys Frances Solon on November 1, 2007, All Saint's Day at the Assiniboine Centre. Gladys was born August 21, 1927 in Brandon, Manitoba. Gladys was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Anne Thompson. Gladys leaves to mourn her passing, her loving husband Paul of sixty-two years, sons Dwight (GisFle) and Paul Jr. (Cyndi) and her one and only granddaughter, Samantha Anne. She also leaves behind many special friends who will miss her dearly. She attended St. Michael's Academy, David Livingstone and Earl Haig.
Gladys was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will always be remembered for her thoughtful, generous nature. Family was important to her and most activities were centered around the kitchen table. Throughout the years, she enjoyed following her sons' various sporting activities. She liked to keep busy and enjoyed doing ceramics, making perogies at the Sokol and knitting hundreds of pairs of mitts and booties for charity. She was a faithful member of St. Augustine's Parish all of her life and rarely refused an opportunity to provide baking when it was requested. Although Gladys' namesake was derived from the gladiola, she enjoyed flowers best in the garden rather than in a vase. In lieu of floral arrangements please consider making a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 3 - 824 - 18th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 5B7 or to the Manitoba Lung Association, 8 - 940 Princess Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 0P6. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 327 - 4th Street, Brandon, Manitoba on Monday, November 5, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Dominic Yuen. There will be a time of fellowship at the Sokol Hall, 33 - 11th Street North, immediately following the service. A private family interment will be held in the Brandon Cemetery at a later time. The family wishes to thank Dr. Deong for her many years of care and friendship, the staff on 4th Floor West at BRHC and especially the compassionate and attentive care provided by the staff at the Palliative Care Unit at the Assiniboine Centre. Your kindness at this difficult time will be forever remembered. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
'There's a bridge of golden memories
From here to Heaven above,
It brings you very close to us,
It's called the bridge of love.
No one knows the heartache
Of which your parting cost
So God in all his glory
Has gained what we have lost.'
