Gladys Gwendoline Mair (nee Dunbar), beloved wife of William John "Jack" Mair passed away at her residence, Hillcrest Place Nursing Home on Saturday, January 17, 2004. Gladys was born at North Portal, Saskatchewan on September 6, 1914 daughter of Jeannie (Brockie) and George Alexander Dunbar. Gladys received her education at a country school in Saskatchewan and her high school in Brandon. She started music lessons at an early age and received her A.T.C.M. Degree from Toronto Conservatory of Music in 1944. Gladys taught piano to many students in southwest Manitoba. She married William John Mair of Elgin, Manitoba on December 11, 1956 at Estevan, Saskatchewan. Gladys was a charter member of Urbanacres Toastmistress Club of Brandon, a member of Victoria Chapter O.E.S. Hartney and a member of the Queen Mary Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Brandon. She was a member and Past Worthy High Priestess of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Brandon. She was a member of the United Church of Canada at Souris and Brandon as well as a member and past president of the Souris U.C.W. and the Central United U.C.W. Gladys loved square dancing and spending time in her flower garden. Gladys and husband Jack farmed for many years in the Elgin district before retiring to Brandon in 1990 and then to Lions Manor in 1999. Gladys and Jack traveled across Canada at various times as well as parts of the United States including Hawaii, and a Caribbean Cruise. She is survived by: her husband Jack, brother and sister-in-law Millen (May) Dunbar, sister-in-law, Doreen Cowieson. She also leaves: nephew, Brian (Dawn) Hanson, great niece, Kristen Hanson, great nephew, Evan Hanson; niece, Judy (Rod) Johnson, great niece Alison Johnson and great nephew, Scott (Tanya) Johnson; niece, Lisa (Curtis) Murray, great niece, MacKenzie Murray and great nephew, Tyler Murray; nephew, Cameron (Candice) Cowieson. Gladys was predeceased by; her parents, Jeannie and George Dunbar, a sister Emily and brother-in-law, Herman Hanson. The funeral service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at 2:00 pm. David Howell of Central United Church will officiate. Interment will follow at the Souris and Glenwood Cemetery.
