LUSHAW: It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother, Gladys Joyce Lushaw (nee Moreland). Joyce passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 after a brief struggle with cancer. Left to cherish her memory are: her husband of 48 years, Frank; son, Murray, daughter-in-law, Jeanne and grandchildren, Tanner (6), Connor (4), and Miranda (2). She is also survived by her siblings, Mel (Ruth) Moreland, Elaine Campbell, Gwen (Ed) McPhail, Garth (Gloria) Moreland, and Donna (Fred) Mistal as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce was predeceased by her mother, Verna May; father, James; sister, Doreen; and brothers-in-law, Allen Campbell and Gordon Bond. Joyce was born on February 23, 1931 on a farm north of Oak Lake, MB in Woodworth Municipality. The family moved to Brandon in 1938, and she spent her formative years residing at 605 Victoria Avenue East. She attended school at Central, Earl Haig Junior High and Brandon Collegiate. After high school, she proceeded to the Wheat City Business College. Her first position was as a receptionist for Drs. Johnson and Baker and then in a similar role for H.E. Wright, a farm implement dealer. She then spent most of her career working at Dick Insurance Agencies, retiring in 1993. Joyce was a devoted member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Brandon, where she belonged to the NSF group. She enjoyed volunteering in the church, assisting many times in the kitchen for various functions. She was an avid curler at Riverview Curling Club. She amassed many trophies through the years, and was quite proud of her one 8-ender!! She also loved watching curling and golf on TV. Joyce was an endearing person who cared greatly for all the people in her life. Her greatest love was for her family followed closely by her friends. She will be greatly missed! A Celebration of Joyce's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Saturday, October 22, 2005. The Rev. Paul Sakasov of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church officiated. A private graveside service was held at the Brandon Cemetery. Joyce's family would like to express their thanks to the caring nursing staff of I.C.U. at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Joyce to Cancer Care Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0V9. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to memorieschapel@mts.net.
