Obituary

THOMPSON: The death of Gertrude Florence Thompson occurred at her residence, Fairview Home, on Monday, November 14, 2005. Gertrude was born on March 9, 1909 in London, England. In her infancy her family emigrated to Canada, settling in the Elgin, Manitoba area. After 7 years, the family moved to Winnipeg where her father gained employment with the Winnipeg Electric Co. as a street car conductor. She completed her high school education and then attended Secretarial College. Gertrude spent most of her working career with the Home Insurance Company. After her marriage to Frederick Thompson, she was a long-term resident of Norwood, residing on Tremblay Street. Upon Frederick's death, she moved to Gable Arms on Henderson Hwy. In July 2004, Gertrude moved to Brandon where she resided at Fairview Home. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, reading and completing crossword puzzles. Gertrude was an avid sports fan. She will be lovingly remembered by: her son Ron (Heather); grandsons Earl (Debbie) and Mark; granddaughter, Lara and also by her sister, Winnifred Morley. She was predeceased by: her husband, Fred; brother, Rupert and sister, Irene. The Ceremony to Celebrate Gertrude's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Thursday, November 17, 2005. Rev. Joy Ruddock and Rev. Garry MacDowell officiated. Interment will follow at a later date in the St. Vital Cemetery, Winnipeg. Flowers are gratefully declined.
