GOWANS: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Beloved Dad and Grandpa Gerard (Ged) Gowans at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon on Thursday, November 15, 2012. Ged was born in Dundee, Scotland on January 30, 1927. Ged and Ella were married March 19, 1955. In 1966, the family immigrated to Canada although he always referred to Dundee as "home". Over the years they enjoyed many trips back to Scotland. Their summers were spent at the cabin in Minnedosa. He absolutely loved it there, especially when the grandkids would tag along, which was usually every weekend. Ged was a member of the YMCA, he exercised there twice a day... seven days a week and always enjoyed his chats with the ladies at the front desk. Every Sunday, for the past 30 or so years, the family gathered at Ged and Ella's for coffee. Our Sundays will never be the same... Every Monday morning was coffee time at McDonalds with his Scottish buddies. He was so active, always on the go. He loved watching soccer on TV. His favourite team was Manchester United (shared by his grandson Robbie). He was a devoted Dad and Grandpa, even in his last days in the hospital he was worried about his family... so selfless and kindhearted... that's the kind of man he was. Ged leaves to mourn his daughters Jean Langston (Roger Zalizniak), Margaret MacDearmid (Rob), Robert (Tracy) Gowans, Alan (Wendy) Gowans; grandchildren Jennifer Langston (Emanuell), Scott Langston, Robbie MacDearmid, Pamela MacDearmid, Justin (Megan) Gowans, Rory Gowans (Kassie), Chloe Gowans, Kingston Gowans; great grandson Cooper Gowans; sister-in-law Jean Gemmell (Don); nieces (who were like granddaughters to him) Tanis (Micheal) Kreller, their boys Delton, Clayton, Nathan and Kerry (Scott) Hemstad. Over in Dundee he leaves his sister Margaret Cussick, many nieces and nephews as well as his niece Anne (Graham) Storrie and their girls Rebecca and Alice who spent many vacations over here. He always looked forward to their visits. He was predeceased by his wife of fifty years, Ella on December 17, 2005. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. Ged and Ella will be returned to their homeland of Scotland.
