Obituary

Gerald Leo "Gerry" Clark of Brandon, beloved husband of Margaret "Peggy" passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at St. Boniface General Hospital, Winnipeg, Manito200ba at the age of 0 years. Gerry was born on November 12, 1920 in Caledonia, Ontario to Mary and Robert Clark. Gerry attended St. Francis School, grades 1 to 8, Assumption High School, grades 9 to 12, and Lowe Technical College where he trained in auto mechanics. All of his schooling was in Windsor, Ontario. Gerry was on the football team at Lowe Technical College for about two years, and also played baseball for about three years for county teams. In 1939 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force but received a medical discharge one year later. On July 11, 1942 he married Margaret "Peggy" Mansoff at Assumption Church in Windsor, Ontario. In 1944 they moved to Brandon and Gerry worked for Peggy's father at Mansoff Welding, where he learned his trade. In 1947 he began to work at Anglo Oil Refinery. In 1969 he was transferred to Point Tupper, Nova Scotia for a short time and then returned to Brandon. Late that year he began working for Assiniboine Community College as a welding instructor. In 1986 Gerry retired from Assiniboine Community College. From his retirement in 1986 until his death he enjoyed a "career" of fun golf and bowling. He won the Western Open several times, The Tamarach at Clear Lake and many other local tournaments as well as bowling championships. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughter, Patricia (Frank); sons, Gerry (Leigh); and David; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Marie and Anna of Windsor, Ontario; and brother, Neil of Victoria, British Columbia. He was pre-deceased by his father, mother, one sister and four brothers. Prayers were said on Sunday, July 29, 2001 at Memories Chapel at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church on Monday, July 30, 2001 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Fr. Leo Fernandes as Celebrant. Pallbearers were Gerry Clark, David Clark, Warren Clark, Barry Mansoff, Jack Elves and Ed McEwen. Interment followed in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Gerry may be made to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, 2nd Floor, St. Boniface General Hospital, 409 Tache Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2H 2A6.
