Obituary

BOYCEY: The death of Gerald Keith Boycey, formerly of Leaf Rapids, Manitoba, beloved father of Barb and Brian occurred at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Sunday, September 21, 2008. A memorial reception will be held at the Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Sunday, September 28, 2008 from 2:00 pm. to 3:30 pm. Donations in memory of Mr. Boycey may be made to the Scleroderma Association of Manitoba Inc., 105-386 Broadway Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 3R6 or to the Arthritis Society, Suite 105-386 Broadway Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 3R6 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 9Z9. BOYCEY: Gerald Keith Boycey, of Leaf Rapids, Manitoba, passed away on September 21, 2008 in Brandon. Gerald was born on March 30, 1936 in Edmonton, Alberta. He lived in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories until he was 8 years old when the family moved to Sundre, Alberta. He received his elementary and high school education at Sundre. Gerald joined the navy while in Churchill, Manitoba. After that he moved to Lynn Lake. He was employed on the Bull gang, then worked as a mechanics helper and also served with the Mine Fire Department. Next was a move to Leaf Rapids where he worked as a miner, served on the Fire Department and worked in the Safety and Health Department and Security for the mine. After his retirement, he was a security guard for RCMP and Burntwood Regional Health Authority. Gerald was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was also a member of the notorious NMAAA. Gerald enjoyed coaching minor hockey for twenty-two and a half years in Lynn Lake and Leaf Rapids, receiving the M.A.H.A. Coaches Award. He was an avid sports fan and thoroughly enjoyed fishing, camping, and berry picking. He had superior oration skills and took great interest in young people in the community. Gerald is survived by: his daughter Barbara (Ted Uhryniuk); son Brian (Anna Lysohirka) and grandson Cole as well as a sister Heather Bouwman. He also leaves good friend Cynthia Greenham. Gerald was predeceased by his wife Edna; mother Blanche, and brothers Darcy and Ron. A memorial reception will be held at Memories Chapel, on Sunday, September 28, 2008 from 2:00 - 3:30 pm. On October 4, 2008 there will be a service in Leaf Rapids prior to the interment in the Leaf Rapids Cemetery.
