ANDREY: It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gerald Andrey, husband, father and grandfather, on May 12 after a courageous battle with cancer. Gerald was born in Forrest, Manitoba on January 1, 1921 to Winnie & Alexander Andrey. He was a veteran of the Second World War R.C.A.S.C., serving in Italy, France, Holland and Germany. During his lifetime, he worked at Pioneer Fruit, Scott National and Commissionaire at Shilo, retiring at the age of 64. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion No. 3 for 30 years. Gerald loved fishing; especially his fly-in up north and enjoyed many years at the cottage in Sandy Lake. He also took pride in his garden, growing his own vegetables. Time spent with family and grandchildren sitting around an open fire was something he also enjoyed. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Jean of 59 years, sons David (Margaret), Jim (Susan), grandchildren Shawn, Angela, Aubrey and many nieces and nephews. Gerald was predeceased by his mother and father, Winnie & Alexander; sisters: Lil, Ann and Marg and his brother Lloyd. A ceremony to celebrate Gerald's life was held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Thursday, May 15, 2008. Officiating was Rev. Jim Brown with an Honor Guard from members of the Royal Canadian Legion No. 3. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Gerald may be made to a charity of choice. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
