CROY: The death of George Croy of Fairview Home, occurred at his residence on Sunday, April 28, 2002. George was born on December 18, 1917 at Stronsay, Orkney, Scotland. He came to Canada at the age of two years, coming to Medora for a short time before moving to the rural Brandon area. He attended Bloomsbury School. George married Mabel Dorothy Hickson on July 9, 1942. He enrolled in the Virden Flying Training School in 1942, and moved back to the Forest District in 1944, where they farmed in various locations for twenty-nine years. In addition to farming, George worked for the R. M. of Elton driving grader to maintain the roads. He was a founding member of the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum. He was also a member of the Ayshire Cattle Organization. In his community, George enjoyed curling at the Forrest rink and was a member of the 4-H Club. He was a member of the Forrest United Church and later First Presbyterian Church in Brandon. George loved all aspects of farm life and in particular loved Clydesdale horses and farm machinery. He was always tinkering and fixing tractors, cars, and lawn mowers. He is survived by two daughters and one son; Carol Wilkie (Vancouver, British Columbia), Dorothy Raynor (Brandon) and Lyall Croy (Oak Lake) and their families. He also leaves one sister, Jeanetta Ranson (Spruce Grove, Alberta) and her family, and brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by; his wife Mabel, his parents, Caroline and James Croy, a sister, Ruby, brothers-in-law, Len Smith and Art Ranson. George will be remembered as a most affable gregarious man, who was always ready to lend a helping hand or to tell a good story. He was a man who loved his family dearly and was a loyal husband and father. His good nature and stoic acceptance of all circumstances will be fondly remembered by all those who knew him. He will be sorely missed. The funeral service was held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Friday, May 3, 2002 with Rev. Dale Woods of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Pallbearers were: Darcy Hickson, Bill Raynor, Jack Snow, Clare Couling, Clare Moir and Ken Campbell. Interment was in the Humesville Cemetery.
