Barkley: It is with great sorrow the family of George "Bev" Barkley, aged 62 years, of Brandon, announces his untimely passing after a lengthy battle with heart disease and diabetes. Bev was born May 27, 1940 in Virden, Manitoba. His family moved to Brandon when he was a small child. Bev graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Pharmacy in 1962. He began his career travelling as a rep for Park Davis Pharmaceuticals and in 1970 he accepted a Pharmacy Manager position at Woolco. In 1980 he became the associate owner of Shoppers Drug Mart in the Gallery and in 1991 he then moved to the Clinic Pharmacy and worked there until his health failed in the fall of 2000. He leaves to mourn his wife, Myrna; daughters, Debbie (Scott), Brenda (Damon); son, Matt and granddaughter, Jessica, who held a special place in his heart. Bev is also survived by his mother-in-law, Iris Carroll of Brandon; brothers-in-law, Harvey (Marlene), Charlie (Donna), Brian and Lloyd, all of BC; sister-in-law, Mary Lyn of Brandon and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Bev was predeceased by both parents, Norman and Norma. He enjoyed spending time at the family cabin at Clear Lake and before he became ill, was always found cruising the lake with his boat on summer weekends. The funeral service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Monday, January 13, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood officiating. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery.
