Obituary

PLAISIER: The family regretfully announce the passing of Gaston Joseph Plaisier on the morning of Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at Rideau Personal Care Home, in his 84th year. Gaston was born March 28, 1924 in the R.M. of Sifton, Oak Lake. Much of his childhood was spent sharing numerous farm chores with his seven siblings. There were many hardships encountered and conquered throughout those depression era years. Those struggles clearly formed his foundation of work ethic and willingness to always lend a helping hand to others. He purchased the home farm in the Sandhurst district in 1945. In 1953 he rented out his land while he worked various jobs until he started with the Department of Highways in 1956. Gaston's career spanned 32 years retiring in 1988. Gaston greatly enjoyed sports and was one of the original founders of Green Acres Community Centre. He was proud to have all three children active at the ice rink and we all traveled many miles during hockey season. Throughout those years many valued friendships were made and have continued. Gaston was predeceased by his parents, Constant and Maria-Louise, siblings Magdalena, Alice, Beatrice, Theresa, Yvonne, Richard, August and Rene. He also was predeceased by his granddaughter Christina. He is survived by Doreen, his wife of 51 years, son Douglas (Branka), daughter Deborah (Brandt), great granddaughter Ashley, son Cameron (Vicki), and grandchildren Dillen, Sydney and Carson. The family would like to thank the staff at Rideau Personal Care Home for their unbelievable care that they all provided during his stay and in his final days. We all felt truly blessed to be surrounded by such caring people. We would also like to thank Dr. Norman, Dr. Hoy, friends and relatives for their support. The service to celebrate both Doreen and Gaston's life will be held at Memories Chapel on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Interment to follow at Brandon Cemetery.
GOOD-BYE FOR NOW
Many fortunate souls
came to know this man
Some laughed from his jokes,
Some smile all they can.
They saw a loyal husband,
father, grandpa and brother,
Toiling unselfishly for
the sake of all other.
His friends, his family,
can attest to his goodness
Outsiders, strangers, were
blessed by his kindness.
Gaston was a inspiration to
many a soul.
His determination to succeed
kept the cup full.
His persona will be
longed for many a day
But the bridge over this void
is built of fond memory.
In our heart dwells his spirit
of patient serenity.
One day we will reunite,
We hope and we pray.
