OKE: The death of Gary Wayne Oke, beloved husband of Linda, dear father of Sam and Robyne, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Friday, August 10, 2001. Gary was born in Boissevain, Manitoba on March 9, 1938, son of Sam and Edith Oke. His family lived on a farm near Fairburn until 1942 when they moved to Winnipeg. In 1947 they moved to Boissevain. Gary graduated from Boissevain Collegiate in 1956 and then went on to pursue further education at M.I.T. as an electronics technician. Gary managed his own business, Towne Television, from 1969-1991. He then was employed with Manitoba Lotteries. Gary was actively involved with numerous associations over the years including the Elks in Killarney; the Lions Club in Boissevain, Manitoba Wildlife Federation, Ducks Unlimited, and the Royal Canadian Legion. Gary was a great outdoorsman who thouroughly enjoyed bird and deer hunting. He was a great fan of his children's sports, coached girls fastball, played in the Linament League Baseball, and curled his entire life. Gary achieved success in his many endeavors over the years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 33 years, Linda; daughter Robyne (Kelly) Mansell; and son Sam (Jackie) Oke. Also surviving are his sister Barbara (Nelson) Chamberlin; mother-in-law Marjorie Pennell; sister-in-law Charlotte (Bob) Pennell; many nieces and nephews. Gary was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Edith Oke; father-in-law Ray Pennell; and brother-in-law Ed Domaratzki. The Ceremony to Celebrate Gary's Life was held on Monday, August 13, 2001 at Memories Chapel with Beth Clark officiating. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Gary to the Ducks Unlimited, Boissevain/Whitewater Management Area, P.O. Box 1240, Killarney, MB R0K 1G0.
