Frieda Taylor (née Alder)

March 29, 1924 – June 9, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Frieda Taylor on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at the Fairview Personal Care Home in Brandon, Manitoba, at the age of 102.

Frieda was born on March 22, 1924, in the RM of Wallace, the daughter of Ernest Alder and Bertha Wegmueller. On September 22, 1949, she married the love of her life, Bruce Taylor, at St. Paul's United Church in Virden, Manitoba. Together they built a life and a home that would welcome family and strangers alike for over six decades, until Bruce's passing on March 26, 2014.

Frieda was a devoted homemaker and tireless volunteer. For many years she gave her time to the United Church Women's Auxiliary, helping organize rummage sales, and to the Lions Club, where she was a familiar face at the Virden Fair food booth. But it was her own home that may best reflect who she was: a gathering place, and often a home away from home, for family, friends, boarders, aging parents, exchange students, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even the family's beloved dogs. Summers were spent at the family cottage at Oak Lake Beach and on the road, travelling to new places and visiting friends and family wherever they went.

In 1995, Frieda and Bruce moved to Brandon to reside at Lions Manor where she continued to volunteer and attend Knox United Church. In 2021, Frieda moved to the Fairview Personal Care Home, where she spent her remaining years.

Frieda was predeceased by her parents, Ernest Alder and Bertha Wegmueller; her husband, Bruce Taylor (2014); her sons, Allan Ross Taylor and Harold Lloyd Taylor; her daughter-in-law, Maxine Morgan (Allan's wife); and her siblings Ed Alder (Margaret), Irwin Alder (Evelyn), Ernest Alder, Hilda Curry (Bert), Alma Cooper (Russ), Harold Code, and John Bird.

She is survived by her grandchildren Sean (Sheri), Bryan, Darcy, and Tammy Lambert; her great-grandchildren Shea, Sharley, Shael, Shalen, James, Isla, Tiffany, Brooklyn, and Kristy; her great-great-granddaughter Haliey; and her daughter-in-law, Val (Lloyd's wife).

Cremation has taken place. A small, invitational graveside service will be held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Frieda may be made to the United Church Women's Auxiliary, c/o St. Paul's United Church, 286 Nelson Street West, Virden, MB, R0M 2C0.

Frieda will be remembered for her warmth, her generosity, and the open door she kept for anyone who needed a place to belong. Hers was a life defined by family: the family she was born into, the family she built, and the family she gathered in along the way. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched.
