Obituary

POETS: The death of Frederick Arthur Poets, father of Bonnie, Edward and Shari, occurred on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Born October 23, 1933 at Redvers, Saskatchewan to Arthur and Florence (nee Burr) Poets, Fred moved to Brandon and lived with his grandparents on the Poets side. It was here that he met Bernice Kobialka. They married and moved to Hamilton, Ontario where Fred worked for the City of Hamilton and later operated heavy equipment, up until the time he had a stroke which forced him to quit work. Fred loved stock car racing (Car #54) and was a stock car driver for many years. He won many championships; he liked speed and the challenges of out-witting other drivers and always finished in the top five. He raced against and admired Bobby Allison. Fred was a Hobby Hall of Fame Member of the Canadian Vintage Modifieds. Fred loved life and he loved to dance, he also loved animals and wanted to be a vet. He especially enjoyed taking his dog for car rides and walks in the park. Fred is survived by his children: Bonnie Poets from his marriage to Bernice Kobialka, Edward Poets and Shari Poets from his marriage to Elfi Knuth; grandchildren: Jodi, Amanda, and Justin; sister, Joyce Zalucky; numerous nieces and nephews as well as his closest friends Kevin and Sue, whom he loved and missed. Funeral Ceremony took place at Memories Chapel on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Joe Ball officiated. Interment followed at Brandon Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Fred may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 3-824 18th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 5B7.
