SITKO: Frank. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father and grandfather. Frank passed on to see the welcoming face of his maker on April 29, 2008. Frank was born in the farming district of Kelloe, Manitoba on May 29, 1922. Four years later, his father, John Sitko relocated his family to the village of Strathclair, where John opened a harness and shoe repair business. Frank received his education at the Strathclair Public School. During this time his athletic ability in both hockey and baseball led Frank to playing provincial playoffs in both sports with various area teams. Frank began his employment with the Manitoba Power Commission. Shortly after he began his employment, the war broke out and Frank joined the Canadian Army. He served with the 4th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards, 1st Division, known as "The Plugs" in the Italian campaign. In the last attack of Lombardy Plains he was taken prisoner. Frank spent the rest of the war as a P.O.W. in Mooseburg, Germany at Stalag 7A until he was liberated by the American 7th Army. He then returned to England where he was repatriated to Canada. After Frank received his discharge from the Army, he once again became re-employed with the Manitoba Power Commission (Manitoba Hydro) on construction. On May 21, 1950, Frank married the love of his life, Marie, his wife of fifty-eight years. After his marriage to Marie, he was promoted to assistant supervisor and then in 1953, district supervisor in Sifton, Manitoba (also relocated to Pipestone and Russell, Manitoba). In 1965, Frank and his family moved to Virden, Manitoba and he assumed the new position of Commercial Representative (business department) until his retirement in 1982. He then relocated to Brandon. During Frank's years of employment with Manitoba Hydro he was active in many areas of the community, such as hockey and curling, recreation boards and held different contributing positions such as the Brandon Masters Curling Club Presidency and was a member of the Legion branch #3, Brandon. (55 years). Frank is survived by: three sons, Ken (Esther), Bob (Carol), and Jerry; brothers Gordon and Jack Sitko; sisters Jean Mathieson and Bernie (Stan) Feduke; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
