YUEN: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fook Don Yuen on Saturday, July 24, 1999. He is survived by his loving mother, Chau Kwai of Brandon; his loving wife, Big You of Brandon; his children, Lisa and Loree of Calgary, Steve (Sharon) of Winnipeg, Susan (David Oye) of Winnipeg, Leanne (Azmin Ibrahim) of Malaysia, and Chris (Dana) of Hamiota. He also leaves behind six grandchildren whom he dearly enjoyed: Adam and Jennifer, Iskandir and Jasmine, Mikayla and Micah. Fook Don was born in ToySun, China on August 14, 1934. In 1951, he married Big You Ng and they moved to Kowloon, Hong Kong. Later, in 1968, Fook Don and his family immigrated to Canada to reunite with his father, Chau Yuen. Shortly after settling in Brandon, his mother, Chau Kwai, also moved to Canada to be together with the family. Fook Don was employed at Kam Lung Restaurant and spoke fondly of all the friends he met and worked with over the years. He was known for being a hardworker and an extremely kind and gentle person. He seldom complained and knew how to appreciate the simple things in life. This was reflected by his love of gardening and time spent over coffee with friends. Funeral service was held at Memories Chapel on Thursday, July 29, with Rev. Harvey Hurren officiating. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery.
