With great sadness, our family announces the passing of our mother Florence Rita Mazer on Sunday, February 25, 2024, after a full hundred years of amazing life.
Born in Radville, Saskatchewan on September 14, 1923, she was the oldest of five children, all of whom predeceased her.
In 1941, Florence married Edward Mazer and raised five children, Elaine (Kinney), Sylvia (Wayne Fawcett), Edward (Marion), Robert (Patti) and Plynn (Gutman). She is survived by all of her children, 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, and predeceased by her husband Edward and two sons-in-law Brent Kinney and Michael Gutman.
Florence spent the early part of her life and marriage in a farming community in Southern Saskatchewan, moving to Brandon with Ed and her children in 1959 to start a farm implement business. She was an attentive mother, Avon Lady and later worked with her husband in their business doing accounting. She and Ed loved to travel, taking many trips and tours all over the world until they decided that Honolulu, Hawaii would be their winter home for approximately 10 years, after which they wintered in Mesa Arizona. Florence continued to go to Hawaii and Arizona after Ed's passing in 1996, often enjoying the company of her kids or grandkids in both places, and only stopped her warm weather visits in 2018, when travel became difficult for her.
Florence enjoyed gardening, golfing and playing cards, especially cribbage. She was a wonderful cook and continued to bake her own bread well into her 90s. She loved a good party, enjoyed great food and her nightly martini, which she sipped during FaceTime chats with one of her children or grandchildren seven nights a week. Florence was a great listener, deeply accepting of others and an enthusiastic cheerleader to many, right up to the last days of her life. She took challenges in stride and always tried to find good in every situation, in every person. She was – and still is – our family's biggest inspiration. She will be greatly missed by us as well as those who adopted her as their own mom/grandmother, of which there were many.
No service is planned at this time. A private family Celebration of Life will take place this summer.
Donations in memory of Florence may be made to the CNIB, 354 10th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4G1.
