Flora Hutton, widow of Robert Hutton, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, March 14, 2001. Flora was the only daughter of Janet and James Russell Sr. She was born in Rivers, and they moved to the Cornwallis District where Flora started school at Cornwallis #187. The family moved to the Wheatland area and Flora finished what schooling she had in Rivers. She worked on her father's farm driving horses in the field and milking cows. She also enjoyed riding horses. Flora met Robert Hutton in the thirties. It was a lot of miles to drive the horses from Cornwallis District to the Wheatland area so Flora went to work for Bob's parents, Annie and John Hutton Sr., milking cows. Flora and Bob were married on April 10, 1942 and made their home at SE 1/4 10-10-19. In 1956 they purchased a 1/2 section of land, SE 1/4 4-10-19, where they moved in 1959. They lived in the Cornwallis District until Bob's health failed. They moved to Brandon in 1983. Flora was an active community member in Cornwallis and later joined the Central Community Centre, where she loved to play cards, square dance and help with Central's great fall and spring suppers. She also loved to knit, crochet and do crafts. Many a newborn received a shawl made by Flora until her eyesight failed her. Although she couldn't see, she remained interested in the farm and what the kids were up to. She moved to Hillcrest Place from the Assiniboine Centre in August, where she enjoyed the company of the nurses and residents. Flora is survived by her one brother, James Jr. and sister-in-law, Jean Russell of Winnipeg; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edith and John Hutton Jr.; and her one son, Murray and his life companion, Mary Lou. Flora was Grams to Hutch and Lisa, Rodney and Brenda, Tim and Sue, Nicole, Brent and Cindy, Tammy, Trevor, Tyler, Matthew, Alyssa, Brayden, Trinity and Dylan. The Funeral Ceremony was held at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North on Monday, March 19, 2001 at 2:30 pm, with Rev. Don Hudson officiating. Pallbearers were: Gary Minshull, Rodney Minshull, Tim Cuthbert, Brent Minshull, Trevor Minshull and Matthew Minshull. Honorary Pallbearers were the congregation and remaining family members.
