Muriel was born, April 1, 1912 at Davidson, SK, daughter of Merril and Eveyleen (Garvin) Shillington. She received her education in Davidson prior to moving to Regina, where she worked as a salesclerk at the West of England store. Due to the drought conditions in Saskatchewan, she moved with her family to Minto in July of 1932. She was employed in Minto as a telephone operator. Muriel and Melvin Schreiner were married in Minto on June 27, 1935 on the front lawn of the Schreiner residence. They lived in Minto for two years before moving to their farm, east of Minto where they remained until moving to Boissevain in 1997. Muriel was an active member of the Minto United Church and Minto Community Club, but her greatest pleasures were family and friends. Muriel was predeceased by: her husband, Melvin in 1999, her father, Merrill in 1960, her mother Eveyleen in 1966, her only sister Margaret McDowell, her brothers, Garvin, Harold, Gerald, Alan and Robert, who died in infancy. She will be greatly missed by: her son Merrill Schreiner (Margaret); her daughter, Barbara Rea (Barry); her grandchildren, Derrick Schreiner (Vicky), Karen Bernard (Barry), Penny Jones (Daryl), Curtis Rea and Lisa Rea (fiance, Gerald Bos); great grandchildren, Chelsea, Landon and Braedon Bernard, Justin and Paige Schreiner, Brittany and Brett Jones. Muriel also leaves her brothers, Jack (Jessie), Gary (Ingrid) and two sisters-in-law, Dag and Irene as well as many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service was held at the Minto United Church on Saturday, August 24, 2002 with Rev. Ralph Clark officiating. Organist was Isabelle Popple and the United Church choir attended. Granddaughter, Lisa Rea shared memories of her life. Grandson, Derrick Schreiner was urn bearer. Interment took place at the Minto Cemetery. A time of visitation followed at the Minto Town and Country Centre with the Minto United Church supplying the lunch. Flowers are gratefully declined.
