The Funeral Ceremony will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Saturday, May 1, 2004 at 2:30 pm. GURR: Ethel Irene Gurr of Central Park Lodge passed away at her residence on Tuesday, April 27, 2004. Ethel was born on November 4, 1914 in Crandall, Manitoba the daughter of Ed and Laura Hazelwood. She received her education in Crandall as well as took piano lessons, learned to drive, attended young people? group and enjoyed box socials. Ethel married Sam Gurr on November 1, 1934 on the Hazelwood Homestead. They farmed together at Oakner and Hamiota. In 1956 they moved their dairy to the Brandon area. In 1969 Ethel and Sam retired and began to enjoy travelling and campground life. Ethel worked hard at gardening, cooking for threshing crews, canning, baking bread, pies and cookies. She was a good housekeeper and very organized. Ethel always had time to play games with her grandchildren; which was always followed up with a cookie. She did a lot of handiwork: knitting, crocheting, sewing and quilting. Ethel was a faithful church worker and showed hospitality to missionaries and friends. Her family knew that they would be prayed for as she faithfully remembered them every day. Ethel spent her last 15 months at Central Park Lodge. She loved to visit with staff and residents and enjoyed the many activities. Ethel was predeceased by: her parents, Ed and Laura Hazelwood; and her husband, Sam. She is survived by: her two sisters, Vera Gurr and Mervena Irvine; her four children, Lorraine (John) Hersey, Merv (Marj) Gurr, Merrilyn (Bruce) Nehring and Glen (Marilyn) Gurr; ten grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, on Saturday, May 1, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Ron Pierce will officiate.
