RICHARDSON; The death of Emma "Ruth" Richardson (formally from Douglas), occurred peacefully, July 12, 2008, at Dinsdale Personal Care Home. Ruth was born January 1, 1907 to John and Elizabeth Duncan of Brandon. Ruth received her education in Brandon at King George, and Earl Haigh Schools, as well as Brandon Business College. She was employed as Secretary-Bookkeeper by a local creamery. On December 16, 1925 Ruth married James Alexander Richardson of Douglas. Together they farmed south of Douglas for over 40 years. Ruth was very active in the community; she belonged to the Douglas United Church Choir, UCW, WI as well as being Secretary-Treasurer for the Lawrence School District. Ruth was an avid gardener and also an excellent pianist. Many happy hours were enjoyed by friends and family listening to Ruth play piano while friend Bob Brown played violin at neighbourhood gatherings. Jim and Ruth retired from the farm and moved to Brandon the fall of 1965. They celebrated their Golden Anniversary, December 16, 1975. Jim passed away on November 2, 1977. After moving to Brandon, Ruth joined the Salvation Army and was active in The Home League until declining health caused her to be hospitalized. In 1986, Ruth moved into Dinsdale Personal Care Home, where she received exceptional care. Ruth is survived by two sons: Bill (Vi) Richardson of Brandon and Norm (Wilma) Richardson of Douglas. There are also seven grandchildren: Diane (Sheldon) Leskiw, Calgary; Wendy Jacobson, Brandon; Barry (Roberta) Richardson, Canmore, Alberta; Kenneth (Heather) Richardson, Brandon; Murray (Sharon) Richardson, Douglas; Boyd (Stacey) Richardson, Douglas; Beverly Richardson, Douglas. There are also sixteen great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren; one niece Dale Wilkinson, three nephews Murray Criukshank, Gordon Richardson and Ron Richardson. Ruth was predeceased by her parents: John and Elizabeth Duncan; husband Jim; two sisters: Louise (Lou) Criukshank and Isabel Leigh. A private family graveside was held, the morning of July 19, at Madford Cemetery followed by a service at 2:00 pm, at Memories Chapel to Celebrate Ruth's life. Capt. Bruce MacKenzie officiated. Roy Walwyn was Song Leader while organist Jean Walwyn played. A touching eulogy was given by Joan Atkins as she shared memories of Ruth's twenty-two years at Dinsdale Personal Care Home. A Poem, "Heavenly Peace", written by Heather Richardson, was read by Capt. MacKenzie.
