Obituary

The death of Emil Mondor, beloved husband of Evelyn, occurred at the Assiniboine Centre on Sunday, January 26, 2002. Funeral arrangements are pending with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.

MONDOR: Emil Wilbert Mondor of Brandon, Manitoba passed away at the Assiniboine Centre on Sunday, January 26, 2003. Emil was born in Dunrea, Manitoba on May 2, 1919 to Joseph and Clara Mondor. He spent his childhood in Dunrea and left school at an early age to help on the farm. Emil lived in Winnipeg and Brandon. On October 8, 1960, Emil married Evelyn Smirl and recently celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary. Together they raised their four children; Eugene, Elaine, Evonne, and Edward. Emil worked for Eaton's and Kullberg's delivering furniture. Later he worked for the Department of National Defense at Shilo as a truck driver. Due to health problems, Emil was unable to continue working and became a stay-at-home Dad. He enjoyed camping at Killarney, country music, fixing up old cars, being outdoors and especially, spending time with his family. Emil is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children, Eugene, Elaine (Michael) Gradidge, Evonne, and Edward (Michelle Tremblay); grandchildren, Scott, Matthew and Lauren Gradidge. He is also survived by his sisters; Bertha Bedford of Winnipeg, Henriette (Harry) Harland of Minnedosa; and brother, Albert (Victoria) Mondor of Brandon. Emil was predeceased by his parents, Clara and Joseph Mondor; sisters, Flora Delegrave, Antoinette Shipley and Nora Mondor; brothers, Alex, Joe, Alf, Tony, and Louis Mondor. The funeral service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street N. on Saturday, February 1, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be: Ralph Brooking, David Foster, Mike Kowalchuk, Allan Smirl, Don Smirl, and Keith Smirl. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Emil to the Assiniboine Centre, Palliative Care Unit, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
