HANNAY; Elsie Hannay (nee Askham), long time resident of Brandon, passed away with her family by her side, on Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Elsie was born on January 26, 1919 in Hadfield, Glossop, Derbyshire, England, the daughter of Arthur and Elsie Askham. She came to Canada at the age of two with her family and received her education in Brandon at Central, Earl Haig and BCI Schools. On June 29, 1940, Elsie married Melvin Hannay. Their first son Darryl was born in January 1943, before Mel went overseas. Gaye, their second son was born in August 1948. Elsie was a long time member of the ANAF Brandon Branch and the Seniors Crocus Club. She is survived by: her sons, Darryl (Pat Roloff) of Medicine Hat, AB and Gaye (Elaine Stanley) of Brandon; grandchildren: Lisa, Darryn Hannay and Shannon (Tyson) Volk, Ryan, Shaun Hannay and Kim Stanley; and great grandchildren: Taylor and Brayden Volk. Also surviving are nieces: Bernice (Cyril) Flammond of Brandon and Lorraine (Don) Maydaniuk of Kamloops, BC and their families, as well as relatives in England. Elsie was predeceased by: her husband, Melvin in 1974; father, Arthur in 1958 and mother, Elsie in 1964. She was also predeceased by: her brother, Freddie in 1928; sister Eleanor "Nellie" Fowell in 1993; father and mother-in-law, Jack and Orphia Hannay; brothers-in-law, Fred Fowell and "Ja" Hannay; daughter-in-law Carol in 2001; and friend Ivan MacKay. The Graveside Ceremony will be held at the Brandon Cemetery on Monday, May 3, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends to share their memories of Elsie with them at a time of fellowship and refreshment to be held at the Army and Navy Club, lower level, 31-14th Street on Monday from 2:30 pm. to 4:00 pm.
