McINTOSH: On the evening of January 5, 2004, Ellwood McIntosh passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Left to cherish the memories of his life are his wife, Anne; his children; Dennis (Sharry), Bob, Donna (Barry Cullen); his grandchildren, Ryan, Angie, Lindsay, Samantha and Kurtis. He also leaves a sister Muriel (Dr. Ashley Thomson) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Ellwood was predeceased by: his father, Edson, his mother, Margaret, his grandson Jason and his brother John. Ellwood was born in 1925 and grew up on his parents farm southwest of Virden. He attended Mayville School and Virden Collegiate. After completing high school, he worked at the Virden Flight Training School and later joined the Navy in 1942. In 1947, he began farming his own land and married Anne Palk in 1949. Ellwood and Anne lived on the farm until 1999 when they moved to Brandon. Ellwood was a kind, friendly man who appreciated the simple things in life. He enjoyed the outdoors (farming activities, fishing, nature) and was always very physically active. He and Anne were known for their large gardens and well kept farm yard. Even after taking up the business of installing flooring in the 1970's, he continued to hobby farm. Being with people was important to Ellwood, whether it was talking over coffee at a local restaurant, having a game of cards at the Legion, or fishing with friends. Even after moving to Brandon and unable to drive because of visual impairment, Ellwood went out in the community and could often be found chatting with renewed acquaintances in the shopping mall, canvassing for a charity, or visiting residents of the Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The Memorial Service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Saturday, January 10, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Trevor Rutley will officiate. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Ellwood to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, #3-824-18th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 5B7. Complete obituary will follow.
