Obituary

MENNIE: Elizabeth Donalda: October 8, 2012 - The day we lost our Mother, Grandmother and Friend. Mum loved life, she loved people. Her greatest pride was her children Rosslyn and Ronald, her grandchildren Marcy and Cole, Jenna and Josh and her great grandson Robbie. They will all miss her deeply. Mum was born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba. She married Ronald Sydney Godfrey in 1945. They moved to Australia for a while before returning to Brandon. In 1976, she married Norman Allan Mennie, who shared with her his love for his three sons, Wayne, Rick (& Kathy) and Cal and, of course, the love of golf. Mum was predeceased by both her husbands; her sister Margaret Ward; brother Jack Ross and grandson Robert Franklin Vidalin. Many of you will remember Mum as Hostess at The Suburban Restaurant. She started working there in 1963 and oh how she loved that job! She got to dress up, meet and look after so many interesting people. Her major hobbies were gardening at her cottage and golfing. She held a term as President of the Ladies Association at Clear Lake in 1992 and was also a member of The Eastern Star. Mum did not want a service- we have respected those wishes. She has been cremated and now rests in the Brandon Cemetery at the top of her Columbarium, facing west. We especially wish to thank everyone at Dinsdale Personal Care Home for their exceptional care and friendship, and also the friends and family who took time out of their busy lives to visit with her. In closing, we want to share a poem Mum found and wrote down many, many years ago for this occasion.

Miss Me But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom filled room, why cry for a soul that is free
Miss me a little, but not for long and not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that we once shared, miss me but let me go
For this is a journey we all must take and each must go alone
It's part of the Master's plan, you see a step on the road to home
So when you are lonely and sick at heart, go to the friends you know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds, miss me but let me go

Flowers gratefully declined. For those who wish, memorial donations in Mothers' memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, Unit 4B - 457 9th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 1K2 or online at www.alzheimer.mb.ca.
