VANHEYST: Elizabeth Nancy vanHeyst (nee Hofstee) B.Sc., D.D.S. beloved wife of Ted and mother of Jonathan and Daniel, passed away peacefully at home in Brandon on July 21, 2005. Born, November 10, 1962 in Port Jervis, NY, she grew up the youngest of eight on her family dairy farm on the banks of the beautiful Neversink River. There she learned the values of faith, humility and hard work that she would carry throughout her life. After graduating as valedictorian of her high school class in 1980, she went on to obtain her B.Sc. at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI in 1984 and her D.D.S. at SUNY Stoneybrook Long Island in 1988. Dr. vanHeyst completed a dental residency at the U of S in Saskatoon, SK before moving to Edmonton, AB, where she helped establish the Geriatric Dental Clinic at Edmonton General Hospital. She practiced there until 1994. In 1994, she moved to Brandon and practiced at Westman Dental until retiring for health reasons in 2003. She met her husband Ted in 1990 and they married, July 29, 1991. They were blessed with sons, Jonathan in 1993 and Daniel in 1997. Elizabeth's life was marked by; a spirit of love, gratitude, generosity and faith in her Lord. She had many friends wherever life took her and valued them all. She enjoyed the good gifts of life; a conversation or a meal with family and friends, a book with her children, a walk, a sunset over Caddy Lake, study, the garden, a prayer, making a pie. She was a devoted volunteer of Christian Heritage School and Brandon Christian Reformed Church. Throughout her long struggle with cancer, Elizabeth continued to count herself blessed, to care about the needs of others and to hold fast to her Saviour. She is survived and deeply missed by her mother, Anne Hofstee, siblings, Margaret (Peter) Vandenberg; Hermina (Mike) vanElderen, Cora (Dan) Kuiper, Ed (Carol) Hofstee, Cathy (Brian) Hanse, Fran (Folkert) Meidema and predeceased by her father, Ted Hofstee and brothers, Edward John and Jay. She will also be deeply missed by her parents-in-law, Don and Jeanette vanHeyst and their family; Dianne (Herman) van den Ham, Daniel (Rhonda) vanHeyst, Pat (Herman) Vreeman, Ron (Fran) vanHeyst and Dave (Lauri) vanHeyst and by her many friends, patients and co-workers. Her family wishes to extend their thanks to the many hundreds who have upheld them in prayer and shared their grief. Thank-you also to the staff of Winnipeg HSC, the BRHC, Cancer Care Manitoba, Dr. Barbara Kelleher and Dr. Sonny Dhalla for their consistently compassionate and professional care. The Memorial Service was held at Knox United Church, 451-17th Street on Monday, July 25, 2005 at 3:00 pm. Dr. Evert Busink of The Christian Reformed Church officiated.
