Elizabeth “Betty” Loree

Betty Loree passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

She was born Elizabeth Aseneath Crozier, the eldest daughter of Waldron and Ettie (Hopkins) Crozier in Brandon on August 20, 1928.

Betty attended school in Justice and finished her education at Brandon College. After teaching a term in a school near Gilbert Plains, she returned to Brandon and found work at the Brandon Hospital.

She met Blair Loree, whose brother Jim was dating Betty’s younger sister Helen. Wedding bells rang for both couples on March 31, 1950. Blair and Betty started farming with Betty’s parents in 1952. Together they raised five children in the Justice district.

Community was important to Betty, and she was active in the U.C.W, Woman’s Institute, Moore Park Sunday School, Norman Community Club and Forrest 4H.

Betty shared a lot of interests with Blair, and together they researched their family trees, and started extended family reunions, reconnecting with family from many provinces and states. They also were involved in the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame board.

Motor vacations were the favorite mode of travel. Betty navigated from Yukon in the North, to both southern US coasts, with multiple stops along the way. Winters were spent in Mesa, Cathedral City and later, Osoyoos. One favorite trip was the train ride to Churchill, so they went back a second time.

In 1987, Betty was diagnosed with colon cancer. She endured surgery, chemo and then a later life saving surgery. She remained cancer free for the rest of her life and became a strong Cancer Care advocate.

Retirement found them in Brandon, later at Victoria Landing. After Blair passed in 2020, Betty moved to Rotary Villa, and then to Carberry Personal Care Home.

Betty enjoyed current events, subscribed to several local papers and was a keen weather watcher her entire life. She documented it in multiple scribblers over the years and became a devotee of The Weather Network. She loved her iphone and once she was introduced to Facetime she did not look back. She was in contact with family and friends daily, and it was so nice to actually see her through the covid years. She was very keen on curling and watching the televised games. She was mostly interested when it was her grandchildren curling, but watched them all because she knew all the teams.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, husband Blair, sister Helen and four sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law, grandsons Richard and Terry.

She is remembered by her children Dawn (Lee) Robins, Darrell (Gaye) Loree, Sherry (Dixon) Baker, Iva (Ray) Sharp, Deanna (Greg) Stock, fourteen grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

The family would like to express their sincere respect and thankfulness to the Carberry Personal Care Home and its dedicated staff. The kindness and compassion shown for our Mother was outstanding.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026 at 1:30 pm at the Justice Mennonite Brethren Church.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Carberry Personal Care Home.
