BESSANT: Elizabeth Ann "Beth" Bessant passed away peacefully, with family at her side, at the Boissevain Heath Centre on Wednesday, November 12th, 2008. Beth was born on April 26th, 1952 in Cartwright, Manitoba to Mert and Gladys Fenton. Beth was the oldest sister of eight children. She had three older brothers: Ken, Arnold, and Raymond, twin sister Beryl, Donna, Stanley, and Phyllis. Beth attended South Derby School, a one-room schoolhouse northwest of the family farm, and continued her education at Cartwright Collegiate Institute. After school, Beth was employed by the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company and lived in residence while she worked there. During her time at the Mutual, Beth was a recipient of a cornea transplant from a young man that had been killed in a motorcycle accident. The transplant was required due Beth having the degenerative eye disease, Keratconus. During the early 1970's Beth met Allan Bessant, and they later married on July 26th, 1975. Born to them were two children; Brandt in 1977 and Amber in 1980. Beth worked at the Highway lunch, Rawlings Food Town, and Sandi's Styles and recently, the Boissevain & Morton Regional Library. Beth loved her time at the library. She enjoyed reading and recommending the new books to patrons and especially the kids at story time. She loved clothes and was always buying and wearing what was in and trendy. Sewing and crafts, and crochet kept her imagination and creativity challenged. Beth loved to garden, especially flowers. In fact, many of her flowers moved annually to the library for the winter. Beth was also a charter member of the original Kinette club of Boissevain. She believed in chipping in to get the job done, and was always a willing volunteer. Beth loved coins and was obsessed with curling. You never wanted to get between her and the TV when the Scott tournament of Hearts, the Briar, or the World Curling was on. It was worth you life. She was also was a league bowler at the bowling alley for many seasons. Mom travelled a lot with her sisters, and Allan, getting to see many of the United States, Mexico and Europe. Family was always at the top of her list. She enjoyed her grandchildren Mackenna and Ryland a lot and did what ever she could to help out. She baby sat at every opportunity and looked forward to them visiting. Beth will be missed by many. Beth was predeceased by her brother Arnold in 1989, her father Merton in 1999 and her mother Gladys in April of this year. Beth is survived by her loving husband Allan; son Brandt; daughter Amber Medcalf and her husband Wayne; grandchildren Mackenna and Ryland.
