Obituary

Ed Martinook passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, December 6, 2001 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre after a lengthy struggle with Multiple Sclerosis. He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Linda, son, Mark (Wendy) Martinook and their children, Ashlee and Jordan; daughter, Kristin (Scott) Young and their child, Ryan; mother-in-law, Julia Borotsik; brothers, Ken (Sharron) Martinook and David (Joanne) Martinook, sisters, Judy Kowbel and Shirley (Gerry) Joynt; brother-in-law, Richard (Norma) Borotsik; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his father, John Martinook; mother, Ida Martinook; and father-in-law, Martin Borotsik. Ed was born on July 18, 1946 in Brandon, Manitoba. He was the oldest of five children to John and Ida Martinook. Ed attended school in Brandon at Fleming, Earl Oxford and Vincent Massey as well as the Brandon Collegiate Institute. Ed married Linda on September 25, 1965 and together they raised two children, Mark and Kristin. There were three very special people in his life, Ashlee, Jordan and Ryan. These three special people were his grandchildren. Ed loved his grandchildren for whom he always made time. They held a very special place in his heart. Ed worked and lived on the family farm west of Brandon all of his life. In 1988 Ed's illness forced him to slow down. He opened Avenue Air, and although he could not work, he participated in the operation of the business right up until the time of his death. Ed was always a farmer at heart and he never gave up farming entirely. He would enjoy sitting in the front yard at the farm or at the end of the drive way and watch the harvesting of the crop each year. A major part of Ed's early life was stock car racing (his friends called him "Fast Eddy") and playing broomball. Later on he enjoyed going to the Wheat Kings games, weekly Sunday movies, camping trips in the motor home and spending time with his family and friends. Ed was disabled, but he had a great attitude about life. He was always smiling and always kept busy. His disability never kept him from doing what he wanted. Ed always considered himself very fortunate to have everything he needed to live a normal, comfortable life at home. The Funeral Service was held at Central United Church at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 10, 2001. Pallbearers were Lawrence Williamson, Garry Donohoe, Chuck Fowler, John Zenchyshyn, Randy Mateika, Don Richardson and Don Ditchfield. Interment followed in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Ed may be made to the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities, 825 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3A 1M5 or to the Brandon General Hospital Foundation, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 2B3. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.

Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there ...
I do not sleep, I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain,
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight ...
I am the soft stars that shine at night ...
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I did not die. Memorials
