Tom joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1941 and served with the Lake Superior Regiment in England, France, Belgium, Germany and Holland, returning home in 1946. He was proud of his involvement with the liberation of Holland, even after 60 years. Tom was humbled by the gratitude that the Dutch people still expressed to the Canadian Soldiers.
