Obituary

Peacefully, on Sunday, September 25, 2016, Edith Evelyn Pierce (nee McKenzie) passed away with her family by her side at Fairview Personal Care Home at the age of 92 years.

Edith was born on the family farm at Harding, MB on September 16, 1924, the sixth child of a family of eight. Her formative years were spent working on the family farm and attending school at Harding. In 1945, she moved to Brandon and worked at the Brandon Mental Hospital as an aide. She met Frank Pierce in 1948 and they married in March of 1949. In 1950, she began her career as a stay-at-home mom and took great pride in raising her five children in a loving home. Nothing was more important to her. Our home was a revolving door, welcoming family, friends and neighbors at any time.

When Frank retired in 1980 they surprised us all by taking up golf. Mom loved the game and enjoyed many rounds out on the course over the next few years. Mom and Dad also enjoyed travel; taking trips to Jamaica, Hawaii, Mexico, Portugal, and Holland to name a few. They then discovered wintering down south and spent the next sixteen years going to Mission, Texas for 3 or 4 months each year. They made many friends, which they kept to this day.

Edith was predeceased by Frank, her loving husband of 63 years and her entire family, leaving only one sister, Alma Yule. She is lovingly remembered by her five children, Murray (MaryAnn), Bill, Helen (Grant) Dilworth, Jan (Dave) Mahoney and Donna (John) Robbins, eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Mom's children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of her spirit and zest for life will live on through them. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.

The Celebration of Edith's Life took place at Central United Church on Friday, September 30, 2016. Edith and Frank were laid to rest together at the Greenwood Cemetery, Harding, Manitoba, following the service.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, Unit 4B-457 9th Street, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 1K2, or a charity of choice.

We miss you so much already
Love you forever
