WALKER: Douglas James Walker - June 8, 1952 - June 17, 2007. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doug after a short and very courageous battle with cancer at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 55. Doug leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 32 years, Debbie; daughter Shannon (Troy) Byrt; son Dallas Walker (Carla Peech); grandchildren Evan Walker, Madison Byrt and Daylan and Micaela Peech. He is also survived by his mother Kay Walker; brother Garry (Val) Walker; sister Dianne Walker; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Kelly and Anne McMurchy, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his father George Walker and father-in-law and mother-in-law Ross and Kate McMurchy. Doug grew up on a farm near Sinclair, Manitoba and moved to Reston where his family ran a restaurant. Doug developed a love for the rural life and spent countless hours with his grandparents on their farm. Doug and Deb started dating at a young age and the rest is history. They married and had two children - Shannon and Dallas. Doug had a very kind heart and soft spot for his family, especially his grandchildren. They were the gleam in his eyes. A day wasn't complete unless he called or knew how they were doing. Doug resided and operated a trucking business just outside of Brandon until the time of his passing. He spent countless hours driving a truck. It was more than just a job to him - it was his livelihood, it was his life. He admired and respected those he worked with and those who worked for him. Doug enjoyed the simple life. He wasn't big on holidays and big occasions. He loved spending time with his family and close friends. His only time away from the trucks was to visit his kids and that was just what he enjoyed doing. That and being Deb's soul mate and best friend. The generosity that Doug gave will never be forgotten. If you needed anything, he was out to get it for you or help in any way he could. Even during his illness he was still concerned about others. He remained strong for all of us. The Ceremony to Celebrate Doug's Life was held at Central United Church, on Thursday, June 21, 2007. Rev. Shannon McCarthy officiated. Pallbearers were Joel Lovatt, Terry Mills, Larry Cameron, Kelly McMurchy, Brent Walker, and Ron Davis. Interment was held in the Reston Cemetery. Donations in memory of Doug may be made to Westman Dreams for Kids, Unit 202 - 37 11th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 4J2 or to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, Suite 301 - 620 Colborne Street, London, Ontario, N6B 3R9.
We will Remember You
As days go by, we will remember
All the good times we had
Your great pride in your family,
Your devotion and care
Your smile, your laugh and your love.
You'll be forever beyond our reach
But always with us,
Watching over and guiding us,
To keep our path straight and true.
We will remember you.
You will be forever remembered and deeply missed
"Your loving family"
